Ashwagandha, Arjun & Tulsi: The Herbs Behind Everyday Ayurvedic Wellness

By Veru Ayurveda Team · September 25, 2026

Three herbs, one shared idea

Walk through almost any Ayurvedic product's ingredient list and you'll likely spot at least one of these three: Ashwagandha, Arjun, or Tulsi. They're not interchangeable — each has a distinct traditional role — but together they represent a core Ayurvedic idea: supporting the body's own resilience, rather than targeting one symptom in isolation.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is classified in Ayurveda as a Rasayana — a category of herbs traditionally used to support overall vitality and the body's response to everyday stress. It's one of the most-studied herbs in modern Ayurvedic research, which is part of why it shows up in stress-support, sleep-support, and stamina-support formulations alike.

Arjun (Terminalia arjuna) — the bark of the Arjun tree — has a long traditional association with heart and circulatory wellness in Ayurvedic texts. It's often paired with other herbs rather than used alone.

Tulsi (holy basil) is probably the most culturally familiar of the three — many Indian households grow it at home. Traditionally used to support respiratory wellness and as a daily immunity herb, it's considered one of Ayurveda's most sattvic (purifying) plants.

Why formulations combine them

Ayurvedic formulation has never really worked on a one-herb-one-job model. Combinations are the norm, on the idea that herbs can support each other's traditional actions. That's part of why you'll see Ashwagandha, Arjun and Tulsi together in wellness-spray and tonic formulations, including our own.
